I thought this might be useful for other doll modders. I had to work on an MLP today, and was using black dye. I also Have several CAM doll packs I received for my birthday. I worked on the Dragon Girl CAM & her parts.
I have recently seen some of the dying attempts, this is mine. I used Black rit dye, and while on an MLP I would only leave it for 1 minute at the most with the monster high I decided to leave it in longer and see what happened. I checked it every few minutes, and the next few pictures are the result. The legs and arms took the dye well. The torso and upper thighs did as well, though they became a much more crimson color. The vinyl l head dyed well of course. I don’t know if all CAMs take this well, but hoped this would be a good reference. I think in total She was in the boiling dye water for 10-15 minutes. I didn’t notice any warping or falling a part, everything still looks good.
———————————————————————————————————————-Thank you so much for this information!!
If you have more photos, please feel free to submit them, and I’ll add them to this post. The RIT dye method I’ve seen was used on CAM dolls and all the body parts took to the dye very well. I’m currently experimenting with using RIT dye on full MH dolls and the RIT dye method works on all of the body except for the lower legs.
The dye method can work on the lower legs, but not without intervention. Expect a post about that in the next few days. =)
